Billy Morton – Managing Director
Billy leads the firm curating total balance sheet strategies to create purpose and legacy impact to each client. Billy works closely with high net worth families, business owners, and corporate executives to develop and implement integrated strategies to manage their balance sheet wealth.
Prior to joining MBL Advisors, Billy was a Senior Vice President and Private Client Advisor with U.S. Trust, where he led a client-focused team of wealth management professionals providing wealth structuring, investment management, banking and credit services to high net worth clients, their families and businesses. His team specialized in working with closely held business owners, entrepreneurs and families who would benefit from sophisticated tax-minimization strategies, wealth management and fiduciary services.
Prior to U.S. Trust, Billy practiced law as an attorney whose areas of emphasis included estate planning, estate administration and tax planning for high net worth individuals and owners of closely held businesses. His private practice was as an associate in the Wealth Transfer Group of Moore & Van Allen, PLLC in Charlotte as well as with the firm Murchison, Taylor & Gibson in Wilmington, NC. Prior to attending law school, Billy worked in Atlanta for a number of years in the sports marketing and publishing industries.
Billy earned his B.A. in English Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1998 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law from which he was graduated magna cum laude and was awarded the Order of the Coif.
Active in his community, Billy served on the board and various committees of UMAR Services, Inc. from 2018 to 2023, including 2 years as Chairman, and helped oversee UMAR’s merger with Monarch in 2023. He serves in various capacities with Christ Episcopal Church, including the Children and Family Ministry Commission and as a Sunday School teacher. Billy also served on the board of E. Dillon Co, a family-owned limestone business in SW Virginia. He and his wife, Jenny, have 3 young children at Dilworth Elementary School.
