Jonathan leads the firm curating total balance sheet strategies to create purpose and legacy impact to each client. Jonathan works closely with high net worth families, business owners, and corporate executives to develop and implement integrated strategies to manage their balance sheet wealth. Jonathan is particularly skilled in catering to the needs of family-owned and privately held businesses. He assists business owners in varied stages of growth, from young companies to established enterprises. Jonathan’s approach addresses a range of needs, including business lending, pre-transaction planning, succession planning, exit strategy, cash-flow modeling, trust and estate planning services, and philanthropy. Having grown up in a family-owned business, Jonathan knows first-hand the challenges and satisfactions that business owners face. He recognizes the importance of long-term strategy and timely execution in helping business owners preserve wealth for multiple generations.
Jonathan began his career in 2002 at the Bank of Stanly in Albemarle, North Carolina. In 2004, Jonathan joined Bank of America, now U.S. Trust. He spent seven years as a Senior Portfolio Manager and five years as a Private Client Advisor building and managing over $1B in client assets. In 2018, Jonathan was presented the opportunity to re-engage his entrepreneurial roots and build a purpose-focused wealth management practice as part of MBL Advisors.
Originally from Albemarle, Jonathan earned his B.S.B.A from The Kenan-Flagler Business School at The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he was a member of the football team. He holds an M.B.A. from Wake Forest University. Jonathan and his wife, Erin, live in Concord with their two boys, Colby and Max. They are members of Freedom House Community Church and are active in the local community.

Luther brings a broad range of wisdom and experience in advising clients in Business Exit Planning, Wealth Management, Executive Benefits and Private Client Insurance Solutions. He enjoys working with privately held businesses, entrepreneurs, corporate executives, and family offices in collaboration with their team of professional advisors. Luther started his career in Atlanta in the late 1980s, merged his practice with the firm in 1996 and was named partner prior to the sale of the business to Wachovia (now Wells Fargo) in 1999. During the firm’s period of ownership by the bank he held a number of leadership positions including Managing Director of the Executive Benefits Group and Managing Director-National Accounts for the National Wealth Management team that supported the bank’s multi-family, family office practice. He led the effort to repurchase the firm from Wells Fargo in early 2009 and rebrand the company as MBL Advisors.
Luther’s industry involvement is extensive, where he serves on the Board of Directors for M Financial Group. He has served as President of both the Charlotte Estate Planning Council and Charlotte Chapter of the Society of CLU and ChFC (now NAIFA). He is a member of Finseca, Exit Planning Institute, National Association of Plan Advisors, Young Presidents Organization (YPO) Gold, past Chairman of YPO in North Carolina and past member of the YPO Southern 7 Chapter Board. For fun, he previously chaired the YPO Golf Network, overseeing outings and events for over 3000 worldwide members.
His other business activities include serving as the Founder and Board Chair of ML Bio Solutions, a BridgeBio affiliate with the mission to leverage research created at the McColl Lockwood Laboratory for Muscular Dystrophy Research at Atrium Health into FDA approved patient solutions. He serves on the Board of Directors of Corvivo Cardiovascular and One Direct Health Network.
As a volunteer, Luther has been a global advocate for various Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy organizations since the founding of the McColl Lockwood Lab over 20 years ago. He is a member of the Atrium Health Board of Directors, serves as Vice Chairman of the Atrium Health Foundation and is a member of the Advocate Health Investment Committee. In the community he is a past Chairman of Discovery Place and served on the Board of the Greater Charlotte Cultural Trust.
Luther earned his BBA degree in Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) from the University of Georgia Terry College of Business, the #1 ranked RMI program by US News & World Report Best Colleges 2025 Edition. He’s been an active alumnus serving on the UGA Alumni Association Board and as an Emeritus Member of the Terry Alumni Board. Luther holds the CLU, ChFC, Certified Business Exit Planner (CEPA), Accredited Estate Planner (AEP), Registered Health Underwriter (RHU) designations. He is a Registered Representative (RR) of M Holding Securities, where he is a Chairman of the Wealth Solutions Advisory Committee. He is an Investment Advisor Representative (IAR) of MBL Wealth LLC, an SEC registered firm he co-founded in 2019.

Billy Morton

Billy leads the firm curating total balance sheet strategies to create purpose and legacy impact to each client. Billy works closely with high net worth families, business owners, and corporate executives to develop and implement integrated strategies to manage their balance sheet wealth.
Prior to joining MBL Advisors, Billy was a Senior Vice President and Private Client Advisor with U.S. Trust, where he led a client-focused team of wealth management professionals providing wealth structuring, investment management, banking and credit services to high net worth clients, their families and businesses. His team specialized in working with closely held business owners, entrepreneurs and families who would benefit from sophisticated tax-minimization strategies, wealth management and fiduciary services.
Prior to U.S. Trust, Billy practiced law as an attorney whose areas of emphasis included estate planning, estate administration and tax planning for high net worth individuals and owners of closely held businesses. His private practice was as an associate in the Wealth Transfer Group of Moore & Van Allen, PLLC in Charlotte as well as with the firm Murchison, Taylor & Gibson in Wilmington, NC. Prior to attending law school, Billy worked in Atlanta for a number of years in the sports marketing and publishing industries.
Billy earned his B.A. in English Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1998 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law from which he was graduated magna cum laude and was awarded the Order of the Coif.
Active in his community, Billy served on the board and various committees of UMAR Services, Inc. from 2018 to 2023, including 2 years as Chairman, and helped oversee UMAR’s merger with Monarch in 2023. He serves in various capacities with Christ Episcopal Church, including the Children and Family Ministry Commission and as a Sunday School teacher. Billy also served on the board of E. Dillon Co, a family-owned limestone business in SW Virginia. He and his wife, Jenny, have 3 young children at Dilworth Elementary School.

Brian is the Chairman of the Investment Strategy Committee and is directly responsible for formulating customized investment plans along with the implementation and adherence to those strategies for the firm’s wealth management and corporate retirement clients.
Brian comes to MBL Advisors Inc. after 12 years at U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management, where he was a Senior Vice President & Senior Portfolio Manager overseeing $750MM in client assets. In this role, Brian was responsible for decisions involving portfolio management, asset allocation and portfolio construction.
Brian received his B.S., in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Elon University. Brian holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a member of the CFA Institute and CFA Society North Carolina.
Brian lives in Charlotte with his wife Ashley, their son Baron and daughter Leighton. He is an active partner with Waypoint Community Church, where he is currently serving as an Elder. Brian has also volunteered his time with Big Brothers Big Sisters of greater Charlotte. Outside of work, Brian enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing golf and working out with F3 nation.

Lou began his insurance career in the actuarial department at a large southeastern insurance company immediately after graduating from college. With this company, he gained experience serving as both a home office pension actuary and a Regional Sales Manager. Before joining MBL Advisors, Lou was an owner/officer of Plybon & Associates, Inc. for over three decades, and also owned TPG Consulting.
Lou works with closely held businesses assisting individuals and business executives with their insurance and employee benefit needs. He has developed a specialty in designing and administering unique life, disability, and qualified retirement plans.
Lou graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He holds the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) designation and the FINRA Series 6, 22, 63, and 65 securities registrations.
